Edo Police Command Arrests 55 Kidnapping Suspects and Rescues 58 Victims
The Edo State Police Command has arrested 55 suspected kidnappers, 15 alleged cultists, eight armed robbers and 15 murder suspects. They also detained three firearms offenders and 23 individuals linked to rape and defilement, while rescuing 58 abducted victims. Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika says these successes stem from an intelligence-driven strategy. Officers now use drones, digital tracking and surveillance gadgets to tackle violent crimes across Edo Central and North. In one operation, aerial surveillance led to the safe rescue of Mrs Ezighode Ebosele and her 14-year-old son from kidnappers in Irrua. The alleged kingpin, “Dogo Yellow,” and nine others were arrested and a hideout near Ubiaja demolished under the state’s anti-kidnapping law. Another team, with military support, foiled a kidnap plot on the Benin-Akure Road. Two hostages were freed unharmed after a gun duel and police recovered multiple firearms and ammunition. The commissioner vows continued aggressive action against all criminal activities.
