IED Ambush in Sokoto: Two Soldiers Killed, Several Injured
Two soldiers were killed and several others injured when an improvised explosive device struck a military vehicle en route to Bargaja community in Isa Local Government Area, Sokoto State. The troops were responding to a distress call after armed bandits attacked the village in the early hours of June 21, 2026. Residents said the bandits invaded between 12:30 am and 3:00 am, opening fire and planting an explosive along the Isa–Bargaja road. One seriously wounded soldier later ran into the village seeking help, while witnesses reported seeing two bodies at the scene. A source familiar with the operation described a coordinated ambush: an APC leading the convoy was allowed to pass, then a Hilux behind it was hit by gunfire and the IED. Another soldier is believed to have fled into a nearby forest, and search efforts are ongoing. Locals and military personnel exchanged fire throughout the night, heightening fears over the growing use of explosive devices by bandits. Community leaders are calling on authorities to strengthen security and prevent further attacks.
