FG Says Lagos Factories Are Illegally Drawing 150MW From National Grid Daily
The Federal Government says some companies in Lagos are illegally connecting factories directly to the national grid and taking up to 150 megawatts of electricity daily without approval from distribution companies. Power Minister Joseph Tegbe said the government would identify the firms, recover outstanding charges and reduce losses on the grid. He said the discovery emerged during efforts to address electricity problems along the Lagos corridor. Tegbe also said development finance institutions have committed about $18 billion to Nigeria’s power sector, but criticised past investments that were allegedly driven by political patronage. The government has begun a nationwide technical audit and is planning new asset-management companies to raise funds for grid and renewable infrastructure.
