Nigerian Mother Says Denmark Delayed Approval of Her Son’s Igbo Name, Ebuka

A Nigerian mother in Denmark says authorities delayed approving her son’s Igbo middle name, Ebuka, for almost three months because they were unfamiliar with it. She said her son’s first name, William, was approved, but officials asked the family to provide evidence that Ebuka was traditionally used by their ancestors. She explained that Ebuka is a common Igbo name and a shortened form of Chukwuebuka. The family was reportedly referred to the Nigerian Embassy in Sweden, which later communicated with Danish authorities. The mother says her baby is still listed as having an unknown name in some official records while the issue remains unresolved.
