Kwara South Communities Overrun by Terrorists as Residents Protest Insecurity
Residents of Kwara South under the Kwara South Development Forum took to the streets to demand urgent federal and state action against a wave of killings, kidnappings and mass displacement. They warn that local vigilante structures have been wiped out by armed groups they describe as terrorists. The forum’s convener, Obashola Ayomide Ridwan, said informants have helped attackers eliminate vigilant leaders one by one, leaving communities defenseless. He urged President Bola Tinubu and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to strengthen vigilante groups and deploy more security forces to restore safety. Victims shared harrowing accounts of families torn apart. Adebisi Jimoh described her home in Babanla as abandoned after repeated raids. Sodiq Amidu recounted how two friends paid millions in ransom before they were freed. Activist Aleshinloye Saheed warned that without coordinated intervention, Kwara South risks further descent into lawlessness. Protesters appealed to traditional rulers to unite and appeal to the presidency. They vowed to continue peaceful demonstrations until concrete measures are taken to rebuild trust, empower local defenses and allow displaced residents to return home.
