AI Is Reshaping Jobs: Digital Skills Nigerian Graduates Need Now
Artificial intelligence is already changing Nigeria’s labour market, putting routine roles at risk while creating opportunities for people with practical digital skills. Undergraduates, corps members and job seekers were urged to prepare early rather than wait for wider job displacement. Basic digital literacy should come before AI skills. Job seekers need to be confident with workplace tools such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and video-conferencing platforms before moving on to AI-powered applications. Students were also advised to develop skills relevant to their fields. These include accounting software and Excel for accountants; SEO, digital marketing and online publishing for mass communication students; and AutoCAD, Revit, MATLAB, embedded systems and Internet of Things tools for engineering students. The key message is that academic qualifications alone may not be enough. Graduates who can use digital tools to solve real problems, build professional profiles and keep learning will be better positioned for employment and self-employment.
