Osun 2026: INEC Says BVAS Glitch Fixed After Mock Accreditation Test

INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan inspected mock voter accreditation exercises at polling units in Obokun and Egbedore local government areas of Osun State ahead of the August 15 governorship election. He said the exercise was designed to test BVAS devices, identify faults and build confidence before election day. Officials reported that facial verification generally took about one minute, while both new and old PVCs were authenticated after an early technical issue was resolved. At Olorunsogo Polling Unit 4, voters experienced a brief delay after a BVAS device malfunctioned. INEC technicians fixed the issue, and accreditation resumed. Amupitan said the commission had addressed the problem permanently and urged election officials to report by 7:00 a.m. on election day. He also said reported stolen PVCs had been disabled and that eligible Osun voters affected by the special arrangement could use downloadable PVCs. According to him, BVAS and the result-viewing system have safeguards to prevent the upload of unreconciled results.
