Nnamdi Kanu’s Legal Team Threatens Lawsuit Over TV Guest’s ‘Kill Kanu’ Remark
The legal team for convicted IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu has issued a pre-action notice against TV guest Chigozie Nnabugwu and News Central Television over comments urging Kanu’s extrajudicial killing. In a press statement by Special Counsel Aloy Ejimakor, the lawyers condemned the call to kill Kanu as reckless, irresponsible and unlawful. They warn it could incite violence, disrupt public order and breach the Cybercrimes Act’s prohibition on threatening messages. They also warned News Central TV could face regulatory sanctions for broadcasting inflammatory content and risk contempt of court while Kanu’s trial is pending. The team demands a public retraction from Nnabugwu and an unqualified televised apology or it will commence formal legal proceedings.
