Wike Says Hunger and Insecurity Will Not Stop Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election Bid

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike says President Bola Tinubu can still win re-election in 2027 despite widespread concerns over hunger and insecurity. Speaking during a media chat in Abuja, Wike argued that hardship and security concerns have featured in previous elections. He said many voters take political direction from influential people in their families, communities and wards. Wike predicted that Tinubu would secure at least 25 per cent of votes across the North. While acknowledging the current hardship, he said Nigeria’s economic and social problems would take time to resolve. His comments have drawn attention amid criticism that the administration’s economic policies, including subsidy removal, have worsened poverty and hunger.
