Lagos-Calabar Highway: Why the Proposed Inland Detour Raises Questions
I question the decision to route part of the Lagos-Calabar Highway inland after Ondo, despite the project being presented as a coastal road linking Lagos to Calabar. The project was promoted as a 700km, 10-lane highway across several southern states. It has also involved demolitions affecting homes, businesses and parts of the Lagos shoreline. I believe coastal communities in Ondo, including parts of Ilaje LGA, deserve clarity on whether they will still benefit from the route. Minister David Umahi reportedly said the road would continue through Edo after Ondo and connect with the existing East-West Road. I believe the Federal Government should publish the final route, timeline, cost breakdown and reasons for the change so Nigerians can assess the project properly.
