The Boy Who Wouldn't Apologise
In Kaduna, a young boy named DeBayo stands before a room full of angry adults. They demand an apology, but he refuses to give them one. They reason with him, raise their voices and punish him. He cries because he is still a child, yet when they ask again, he offers neither an apology nor an explanation. He only stares back. Left alone, DeBayo begins to understand something he cannot yet put into words: people may control what happens to his body, but they cannot always force his cooperation. Years later, he will learn that refusing to cooperate is not the same as being in control. That lesson will cost him far more than an apology ever could.
