NGX Records ₦176bn Weekly Trades as Profit-Taking Pulls Market Down 1.2%

Investors traded 12.15 billion shares worth ₦176.06 billion on the Nigerian Exchange during the week ended August 14. Trading volume rose 126.8% from the previous week, while the value of transactions increased by 26.6%. Despite the surge in activity, profit-taking pushed the NGX All-Share Index down 1.20% to 242,619.20 points. Market capitalisation also declined by 1.19% to ₦156.62 trillion. Financial services stocks dominated trading, while Fortis Global Insurance, Cornerstone Insurance and Consolidated Hallmark accounted for 78.07% of total shares traded by volume. The market remains up 55.91% year-to-date, suggesting the weekly decline was a correction after strong gains.
