Security Operatives Rescue Edo Kidnap Victim, Recover Ransom Money
A joint security team has rescued 66-year-old Obareki Emmanuel from kidnappers in a forest near Ibeakuma community, Edo State. His wife, who was abducted with him, was rescued unharmed on 4 September. Emmanuel was freed on 6 September as the kidnappers allegedly prepared to collect ransom. The operation involved the police, army, Edo State Security Corps, mobile police officers and vigilantes. Police said the suspects exchanged gunfire with operatives before escaping into the forest with gunshot wounds. The ransom money was recovered, while a manhunt is ongoing. Edo Police are also investigating an armed robbery at the Benin City home of ADC state chairman Kennedy Odion, where cash, phones, two vehicles and other valuables were reportedly stolen.
