Man Arraigned in Abuja Over Alleged AEDC Prepaid Meter Scam

A 47-year-old man, Babatunde Ajibola, has been arraigned before a Dutse Magistrates’ Court in Abuja for allegedly impersonating an official of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC). Police charged him with criminal conspiracy, false personation and extortion. He pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors alleged that he and others still at large collected ₦30,000 from a Brick City Estate resident for a prepaid meter installation while posing as AEDC workers. The court heard that the group may have collected money from other residents in and outside the estate. The defendant was allegedly found with work tools and an AEDC-branded T-shirt. He was remanded in police custody, and the case was adjourned until November 4.
