Abimbola Olawuyi, Widow of Investigative Journalist Kola Olawuyi, Passes Away

Abimbola Olawuyi, the widow of late investigative broadcaster Kola Olawuyi, has died after a brief illness, leaving her family in deep grief. A family member speaking on condition of anonymity said she passed away peacefully on Monday morning. For nearly two decades, she quietly held her household together and raised their four children following her husband’s death. Kola Olawuyi was a pioneer in investigative radio and television broadcasting in Southwest Nigeria, renowned for programmes like Iriri Aye and Nnkan Nbe. Abimbola’s steadfast support and resilience became the backbone of the Olawuyi family after his passing. The family said burial arrangements will be announced in due course as relatives and well-wishers mourn her loss.

It's striking how media only mentions her decades of quiet support after her passing, rather than while she was alive.

Absolutely, she deserved recognition for her support during her lifetime, not just in headlines after she passed.

I understand the sorrow, but we risk overlooking Abimbola's own achievements if we only acknowledge her as a widow.
