Cross River Begins Climate Plan to Attract Green Investment and Create Jobs
Cross River State has concluded a two-day workshop in Calabar to begin developing its first Climate Transition Plan. The plan is expected to attract green investment, unlock climate finance and strengthen the state’s resilience to climate change. The government will carry out four baseline assessments across the state’s 18 local government areas. These will examine emissions, climate risks, funding opportunities and strategies for reducing environmental impact. Governor Bassey Otu said the findings will guide investment-ready projects in renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, ecotourism, waste management and nature-based solutions. The state also aims to protect its forests while creating jobs and improving livelihoods for residents. Officials said the proposed plan will be backed by climate and green-economy policies, with support from development partners and financial institutions.
