Oncologist Urges Nigerians to Report Symptoms Early and Get Annual Cancer Screening

A radiation and clinical oncologist at LASUTH has urged Nigerians to seek medical help promptly when they notice unusual symptoms. She said delaying care can make cancer harder to treat and increase the risk of preventable deaths. She encouraged annual health checks and cancer screening, noting that early detection and treatment can save lives. Poverty remains a major barrier, she said, as many people cannot afford regular tests or treatment. The specialist called on governments to expand public education on cancer, available treatment options and health insurance. She added that stronger awareness of insurance coverage could help reduce out-of-pocket medical costs.
