Armed Standoff in Awka Estate as NSCDC and CBN Security Dispute Missing 4-Year-Old
Tension erupted in Awka after Civil Defence officers and a security team linked to the Central Bank clashed while recovering a missing four-year-old girl from a residential estate. NSCDC operatives launched a search when the child was allegedly picked up from school without following proper sign-out procedures. They traced her to an apartment, but as they prepared to leave, a team from the CBN Awka Branch arrived with armed escorts. Residents say weapons were raised and the child was taken by the CBN officers amid the confrontation. The NSCDC has since petitioned the CBN Governor, accusing the senior security official of obstructing a lawful operation and abusing office. The incident has prompted calls for a full investigation into the display of arms in a civilian neighborhood. Neither agency has released an official statement, and the child’s whereabouts remain unknown.
