Ojaekomo Family Alleges Fresh Land-Grabbing Attempt in Lagos Dispute

The Ojaekomo Family of Sapata Village in Eti-Osa, Lagos, has alleged an attempt to forcibly take over land allocated to it by the Lagos State Government. Through the Centre for Accountability and Social Well Being, the family asked security agencies to investigate Bashiru Fakorede and others it alleges are acting for competing interests in the property. The group said Lagos granted the Ojaekomo Community a 60-hectare excision in 2015. It added that a 2023 Lagos State House of Assembly resolution shared the land between the Ojomu Royal Family and the Ojaekomo Family, with about 27.65 hectares allocated to Ojaekomo. CASW said parts of the dispute remain before the Court of Appeal and stressed that ownership should be determined through lawful processes. It called for security around the property and an investigation into the withdrawal of Police and NSCDC personnel, warning that any attempt to use force could trigger violence.
