Abia Warriors Eye Continental Football as New NPFL Season Begins
Abia Warriors sporting director Emeka Ifejiagwa says the club is prepared for the 2026/27 NPFL season and is targeting a return to continental football. The Umuahia-based side opens its campaign against Kun Khalifat at the Enyimba Stadium in Aba on 30 August. Ifejiagwa said injuries and a late loss of form derailed the club’s top-three ambitions last season, when they finished seventh with 55 points. He said the team has recruited young players while retaining experienced hands in its technical crew. He also called for the introduction of Video Assistant Referee technology in the NPFL. According to him, improved officiating and a level playing field would strengthen the league and attract more investors.
