ADC Calls for Probe Into Alleged Detention of Members in Kebbi

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) caucus in the National Assembly has asked the police, the Police Service Commission and Amnesty International to investigate allegations that party members and supporters were illegally detained in Kebbi State. Senator Garba Maidoki said the party does not oppose lawful investigations, but insisted that political affiliation must not replace evidence or be used to deny citizens their liberty. He said any criminal allegation should be handled through due process. The caucus said it would file formal complaints against officers accused of improper conduct. It called for detainees to be informed of the reasons for their arrest, allowed access to lawyers and brought before a competent court. ADC also urged its members to remain peaceful and asked authorities to ensure that public institutions are not used to intimidate people over political activities.
