Jay-Jay Okocha has recalled how Bolton Wanderers persuaded him to join the club after his Paris Saint-Germain contract expired in 2002. Speaking on a football podcast, the former Super Eagles captain said he assumed Bolton would be similar to nearby Manchester. The club picked him up from Manchester Airport and showed him its stadium and hotel, which impressed him. Okocha said Bolton did not show him the training ground before he signed. When he later arrived, he found basic facilities, including a cabin changing room and showers that could only serve three players at once. Despite the surprise, Okocha became a fan favourite during four seasons at Bolton, making 144 appearances and scoring 18 goals.
