Ex-Ivory Coast Star Aboulaye Traoré Jailed for Three Years in Rape Conviction
Legendary Ivorian striker Aboulaye Traoré has been sentenced to three years in prison after a Bouaké court found him guilty of rape. The Ivorian League for Women’s Rights said the court also ordered a payment of 15 million CFA francs to the victim and imposed a five-year ban on Traoré from the central region. Traoré was convicted of non-consensual relations with a 21-year-old woman in March 2021. He led the Elephants to the 1992 African Cup of Nations title and scored 49 goals in 90 appearances before retiring in 1996. The former ASEC Mimosas star also had stints with FC Metz and Braga during his club career.
