Eight Residents Killed in Late-Night Attack on Plateau Village
At about 10:30 pm on April 9, gunmen attacked Mbwelle Village in Kwatas District, Bokkos LGA, Plateau State, killing eight residents in a renewed wave of violence. The victims have been identified as Habila Istifanus (38), Hassan Istifanus (31), Iliya Mangut (70), Sunday Gideon (31), Innocent Banabas (20), Lucky Titus (38), Wisdom Lucky (15) and Bwehsun Hassan (25). The community remains in mourning as fears of further attacks grow. Joint security forces responded to a distress call but arrived after the attackers had fled. A delayed arrival—due to challenging terrain and a 15 km journey—hampered rescue efforts. Injured survivors were taken to a nearby medical facility, while security agencies launch a manhunt. Recent incidents in Bokkos LGA have underscored the vulnerability of rural villages.
