Police Safely Remove Unexploded Grenade Found in Maiduguri Drainage

The Borno State Police Command has recovered an unexploded hand grenade from a drainage slab in the Moduganari area of Maiduguri. Police said they received a report about the suspicious object at about 12:40 p.m. on Saturday. The Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, then deployed Explosive Ordnance Disposal operatives to the scene. The area was secured and the grenade was safely removed for examination. Police have opened an investigation to determine where it came from and how it got there. Residents have been urged not to touch or move suspected explosive devices. They should keep a safe distance and alert security agencies immediately.

Safe removal is important, but the bigger concern is how an unexploded grenade ended up under a drainage slab in the first place.

Residents should avoid touching or moving suspicious objects, keep others away where possible, and report them promptly to the police.
