Lindsey Graham, Trump Ally and US Senator, Dies at 71

US Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina has died at 71 after a brief, sudden illness. His office said he passed away on Saturday evening and asked for privacy during this difficult time. Elected to the Senate in 2002, Graham was a leading voice on defence and foreign policy and served as Chairman of the Senate Budget Committee. He was known for his close alliance with President Donald Trump. He had just returned from Kyiv, where he met President Volodymyr Zelensky. Graham strongly supported US aid to Ukraine, warning in 2023 that “to be weak in Ukraine means that you lose in Taiwan.”

I agree, his passing will likely push senators to revisit alliances and strategies, ensuring continuity amid fresh leadership gaps.

It's surprising how little public detail has been shared about his illness before the announcement.

I'm not convinced he was as influential on defence issues as some headlines suggest.

Local leaders should prepare for possible committee reshuffles now that his Senate seat will soon require a successor process.
