Would You Reject a ₦464k Job Offer Because of Commute and Living Costs?
We helped a friend who had been unemployed secure a role with Rubis Energy. The offer was ₦412,000 gross salary plus a ₦52,000 allowance, making ₦464,000 monthly. He declined the offer and asked for ₦700,000 instead. He says the remote work location would cost him about ₦130,000 monthly for fuel and around ₦70,000 in tax deductions. Renting accommodation close to the office would also cost about ₦80,000 monthly. After these expenses, he believes the remaining income would not be enough to support himself and his family, especially with a 9am–6pm schedule. Did he make the right decision, or should he have accepted the job while seeking a better opportunity?
