Ogun Gives 10,000 Rice and Cassava Farmers Subsidised Inputs, Tractors and Digital Tools
Ogun State has unveiled an agricultural support package for 10,000 rice and cassava farmers to improve food production and strengthen food security. The package includes subsidised fertiliser, urea, herbicides and improved cassava stems. The state also distributed 10 tractors, other farm equipment and 1,200 Android phones loaded with apps for weather updates, market prices and improved farming information. Beneficiaries will pay 30 per cent of the input costs, while the state will cover the remaining 70 per cent through its partnership with the International Fund for Agricultural Development. The government said it has completed 28 agricultural projects in two years and procured 39 tractors and four self-propelled harvesters to support farmers across the state. More than 200 young people have also received training and start-up support for soilless farming, while over 12,000 farmers have benefited from previous training and input programmes.
