Sørloth Defends Decision Not to Pass to Haaland, Blames Stones’ Block

Sørloth Defends Decision Not to Pass to Haaland, Blames Stones’ Block

Norway striker Alexander Sørloth says he saw John Stones cut off the passing lane to Erling Haaland and had no clear option. With Stones blocking the square pass, Sørloth took a shot that was saved by Jordan Pickford, drawing criticism for a perceived selfish move. Sørloth insists he wanted to feed Haaland but chose to shoot when the angle disappeared. “The only thing I want in that situation is to pass to Erling. Then it feels like that pass isn’t there, and then I go for the shot,” he explained. England equalised late in the first half through Jude Bellingham and secured a 2-1 extra-time win. The result ends Norway’s best World Cup run, while the Three Lions advance to face Argentina in the semi-final.

Do you think Sørloth had any clear chance to pass to Haaland once Stones cut off the lane?

But are we sure Stones fully sealed the lane, or did Sørloth just choose not to risk the angled pass?

Stones was well positioned but Sørloth's angle looked tight, seems like an easy excuse to me.

Teams should work more on quick passing drills to avoid that blocked lane and force better options in high pressure.
