Concerns Grow Over Proposed NGO Regulation Bill and Civic Space

A proposed NGO Regulation Bill is before the National Assembly, raising concerns about Nigerians’ freedom to organise, advocate and hold public officials accountable. I support transparency and accountability, but NGOs already operate under existing regulations. The concern is that additional restrictions could be used to silence civic voices and weaken support for underserved communities. Democracy goes beyond voting; it also depends on the freedom to organise, serve communities and speak out.
