Concerns Grow Over Proposed NGO Regulation Bill and Civic Space
A proposed NGO Regulation Bill is before the National Assembly, raising concerns about Nigerians’ freedom to organise, advocate and hold public officials accountable. I support transparency and accountability, but NGOs already operate under existing regulations. The concern is that additional restrictions could be used to silence civic voices and weaken support for underserved communities. I believe citizens should speak up, ask questions and contact their representatives to defend civic space. Democracy goes beyond voting; it also depends on the freedom to organise, serve communities and speak out.
