FG, Lagos Move to Launch International Financial Centre by 2027
The Federal Government has endorsed the Lagos International Financial Centre as a national economic priority, setting up a steering committee to coordinate its implementation. The committee includes federal agencies, Lagos State, the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Securities and Exchange Commission and private-sector representatives. The proposed centre is intended to attract domestic and foreign investment by improving regulatory clarity, legal certainty, digital infrastructure and investor confidence. Lagos State will lead host-jurisdiction planning and infrastructure, while EnterpriseNGR will represent financial and professional-services firms in the project’s design. Officials say the centre will not operate as a tax haven. Instead, it is expected to support deeper capital markets, jobs, investment in productive sectors and Nigeria’s ambition of building a $1 trillion economy by 2030. Promoters are targeting a soft launch in the first quarter of 2027.
