Federal High Court Rejects Sowore’s Attempt to Tender Uncertified Documents in Defamation Trial

Federal High Court Rejects Sowore’s Attempt to Tender Uncertified Documents in Defamation Trial

Justice Mohammed Garuba Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja has refused Omoyele Sowore’s bid to admit uncertified records in his defamation suit against President Bola Tinubu. Sowore’s lead counsel, Olumide Fusika, SAN, sought to tender witness summaries and letters through Barrister Wayne Chikezie Elijah. The DSS lawyer, Akinlolu Kehinde, SAN, objected, arguing that public documents must be certified under the Evidence Act. The judge agreed and marked the documents as rejected to safeguard their integrity. Earlier, DSS officer Uwen Davis testified that he wrote to a private corporation on official instruction to delete a post where Sowore allegedly called President Tinubu a criminal. Justice Umar adjourned the defence to July 28, warning Sowore to proceed or face foreclosure.
