US Denies Visas to Some Members of Iran’s UN Delegation
The United States has denied visas to some members of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s delegation ahead of this week’s United Nations General Assembly in New York. Iranian state media said the affected officials include members of the president’s communications team. Pezeshkian has been cleared to attend and is expected to address the General Assembly on Wednesday. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is also due to join the Iranian delegation after travelling through Qatar. Washington had earlier said Iran’s core delegation would be allowed into the country but would face travel restrictions and limits on certain purchases. The meeting comes as tensions persist between the US and Iran, including disputes linked to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
