PFIPC Budget Contradiction: Can Tinubu Prove His Anti-Corruption Pledge Isn’t Just Talk?
Since his appointment as Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu in June 2023, Femi Gbajabiamila has been central to decision-making. Yet his office is now mired in the PFIPC controversy after government budget documents appear to allocate over ₦1.3 billion to an agency the presidency insists doesn’t exist. The director-general of the group has challenged Gbajabiamila’s denial and petitioned for a full investigation, pointing to references in the 2026 Appropriation Act. With neither the presidency nor the Chief of Staff responding in detail, Nigerians are left to reconcile official statements with public records. If President Tinubu truly means to fight corruption, he must appoint an independent panel empowered to review documents, summon witnesses and publish its findings. Gbajabiamila stepping aside during the probe would signal that no one is above scrutiny and that anti-corruption promises are more than empty rhetoric.
