Eze-nwanyis’ Ritual Use of Fanta: A Growing Concern for the Brand
I’ve noticed that Fanta has taken on a new identity among some spiritualists in Igbo land. These self-styled Eze-nwanyis now use the drink in ceremonies and even demand it in their shrines. This trend has led many people to view Fanta as ‘mmanya mmuo mmili’ or the drink of marine spirits. Some consumers now avoid it, fearing spiritual implications rather than enjoying its flavor. My question is: Is the bottling company aware of this unintended branding? Fanta remains a refreshing soft drink, not a spiritual cure. We shouldn’t let charlatans tarnish its reputation.
