Senator Oyewumi Urges Journalists to Verify Reports Ahead of 2026 Elections

Deputy Senate Minority Leader Senator Lere Oyewumi has urged journalists to prioritise factual, balanced and credible reporting. Speaking at the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Osun State Council Press Week, Oyewumi asked media practitioners to verify information before publication and avoid speculation. He also urged journalists to study the 2026 Electoral Act, saying a proper understanding of electoral laws will help the media educate the public, encourage peaceful participation and strengthen democratic accountability.
