UK Air Traffic Control Failure Cancels More Than 400 Flights

More than 400 flights to and from UK airports were cancelled after a technical fault at the National Air Traffic Services control centre in Swanwick disrupted departures. Heathrow, Gatwick, Birmingham, Manchester, Belfast, Stansted, East Midlands and Jersey were among the airports affected. Flight-tracking data showed that easyJet cancelled 137 flights, British Airways cancelled 111, while KLM, Eurowings and Ryanair also recorded cancellations. Heathrow and Gatwick temporarily halted departures, although arriving flights were not initially affected. Passengers faced long waits on aircraft, cancelled journeys and uncertainty over luggage and rebooking. NATS said engineers were investigating problems with its flight-processing system and warned that resolving the disruption could take time. The outage also affected travellers heading to major events, including Manchester City supporters travelling to Porto for a Champions League match.
