OGWAMA Seals Dahua Paper Company Over Alleged Illegal Dumping and Waste Burning
The Ogun State Waste Management Authority has sealed Dahua Paper Company Limited in Owiwi Village, near Obada-Oko, Abeokuta, over alleged illegal waste disposal and open burning. OGWAMA said months of monitoring led to the discovery of an alleged illegal dumpsite opposite the factory. Officials reportedly found waste being dumped, burnt and pushed towards a nearby river used by surrounding communities. The authority warned that the pollution could threaten surface and groundwater supplies and endanger residents' health. Two trucks allegedly used to transport waste to the site were confiscated. OGWAMA said the company will remain sealed while enforcement continues against individuals and businesses operating illegal dumpsites or burning waste openly.
