Police Confirm Detention of Anambra Woman as Rights Group Seeks Access and Clarification
The Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre has asked the Anambra State Police Command to clarify the legal status and safety of Chikamso Jennifer Nwosu, who it says was rearrested after reporting to the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu. The group said Nwosu was initially detained while officers searched for her brother, who is wanted in connection with a murder investigation in Awka. It alleged that she paid ₦600,000 for administrative bail and that her phone was retained without documentation. The police dispute the allegation of payment. Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed that Nwosu is in custody. He said investigators are examining alleged communications between her and the wanted suspect on the night of the incident, including information linked to the victim's death. RULAAC insists that Nwosu should have access to her lawyer and family, and should either be released or brought before a court promptly if she is being held on a criminal allegation.
