PUMS Denies Misuse of Rivers Scholarship Funds, Explains Assembly Probe Absence
PAMO University of Medical Sciences (PUMS) says it has nothing to hide in the Rivers State House of Assembly inquiry into scholarship funding for Rivers students. The university said it sent a representative, letter and supporting documents to the Assembly committee on September 16, 2026. It alleged that its representative was not allowed to present its position and that the documents were not accepted. PUMS said it later sought court protection after a warrant was issued for its Vice-Chancellor's arrest. PUMS maintained that it does not receive direct state budget allocations. It said scholarship funds are processed through government channels to cover tuition and related costs for eligible students. The university added that it has continued to support about 600 Rivers scholarship students despite outstanding payments. The Assembly is continuing its scrutiny of funds linked to the scholarship arrangement, while PUMS insists it has met its obligations under the agreement with the state.
