33 Detained Illegal Mining Suspects Die After Suspected Disease Outbreak in Niger NSCDC Custody
Thirty-three suspects arrested during an operation against illegal mining in Niger State have died while in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps. The suspects were arrested on September 15 and 16 during an operation at Wushishi/Lukoto village. The NSCDC said it discovered the deaths early on Thursday and suspects a disease outbreak, although the cause has not been confirmed. The bodies have been taken to the General Hospital, Minna, for medical examination. The NSCDC said it is working with relevant authorities to investigate the deaths and manage the situation.
