RSU Conference Examines Nigeria’s 2025 Tax Reforms and Their Impact
Rivers State University’s Faculty of Social Sciences hosted its third international conference in Port Harcourt, bringing together academics, government officials and revenue administrators to discuss the effects of Nigeria’s new tax reforms. The event was organised with the Rivers State Internal Revenue Service and focused on the reforms’ political, economic and social implications for national development. In the keynote address, RIRS Chairman Israel Onwuanaku Egbunefu discussed measures intended to modernise tax administration, ease the burden on low-income earners and support small businesses. Speakers also considered how the reforms could affect investment, government accountability and citizens’ welfare. A paper on the macroeconomic implications of the 2025 Tax Acts called the reforms promising for revenue collection, while urging state and local governments to account transparently for funds and recommending a review of the minimum tax rate and manufacturing capital expenditure provision.
