Labour Congress Demands Swift Rescue After Ogbomoso School Kidnappings
The Nigeria Labour Congress is urging the federal government to take immediate action after armed gunmen abducted schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government, Oyo State. Last week, attackers raided communities around Ahoro-Esiele and Yawota, abducting several pupils and seven teachers from three schools. An assistant headmaster and a commercial motorcyclist were killed in the assault. A video circulating online shows one of the captured teachers being killed in captivity, sparking nationwide outrage and deepening fears for the remaining hostages. NLC president Joe Ajaero described the incident as a painful reminder of Nigeria’s worsening security. He called for decisive rescue operations, stronger security measures and a national strategy to restore public confidence and protect vulnerable communities.
