Army Vows Stronger Security Response After Renewed Lakurawa Attacks in Sokoto

The General Officer Commanding of the Nigerian Army’s 8 Division, Major General Bemgba Koughna, has visited Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State after renewed attacks linked to the Lakurawa terrorist group. The visit followed reports of an attack on Ungushi community and rising fears along the Sokoto-Kebbi border, where some residents have reportedly fled their homes amid attacks and livestock rustling. Koughna assessed the Forward Operating Base in Kebbe, met with community leaders and residents, and reviewed the military’s response. He said troops have adjusted their security strategy, remain on high alert and will respond swiftly to threats against vulnerable communities. He assured residents that the military would not allow terrorist groups to establish safe havens in Kebbe and nearby areas.

The GOC's visit shows the attacks are being treated seriously, but affected communities will likely be watching for sustained protection.

A visit and a vow are welcome, but they should not be mistaken for results until renewed attacks are genuinely contained.
