Campsite Horror: Grandfather Flipped 8ft by Bison in Yellowstone
A grandfather was hospitalised with serious injuries after a 2,000lb bull bison tossed him 8ft into the air at the Bridge Bay campground in Yellowstone on July 10. He and his grandson were walking near Fishing Bridge when the animal charged. Photographer Mike MacLeod captured dramatic footage of the attack. He said the bison first charged a distant group of children before turning on the pair. The animal hooked the grandfather’s hip with its left horn and flipped him high into the air. Bystanders, including MacLeod, shouted and made themselves look large to distract the bison. Their efforts eventually drove the animal away. The grandson fled unhurt, but park officials say the grandfather’s injuries are still serious. Yellowstone warns visitors to stay at least 25 yards from bison and to observe wildlife from inside vehicles. This was the second bison-on-human incident in the park this year.
