Haredi Protesters Vandalize Justice Solberg’s Home Over Draft Dodger Arrests
Dozens of ultra-Orthodox Haredi demonstrators converged on the Alon Shvut home of Deputy Supreme Court President Noam Solberg on Wednesday evening. They smashed windows, toppled garden planters and shattered the windshield of his car while he and his wife were inside. According to police, officers from the Judea and Samaria district arrived within the hour and dispersed the crowd in about 15 minutes. Dozens of suspects were detained, and a bus used by the rioters was taken to Kiryat Arba station after clashes broke out during the police operation. The incident reflects growing tensions over a court order to step up arrests of draft dodgers from the Haredi community. Ultra-Orthodox groups have been campaigning against the enforcement of military service for yeshiva students.
