Are UK Steel and Port Deals a New Form of Colonization for Nigeria?

I’m concerned about the recent UK–Nigeria agreements. Nigeria signed a £746 million deal to upgrade Apapa and Tin Can ports. At the same time, British Steel struck a £70 million export deal to supply us with steel. This worries me. We have the resources to revive our steel industry. Delta State Company once produced billets at scale. Yet we’ll now import finished steel from the UK. Are Western powers deliberately stifling our industries to keep us dependent? Nigeria has vast iron-ore deposits. Will we end up exporting raw ore and importing steel? I also wonder why port projects in the Niger Delta are neglected. Burutu, Warri, Sapele and Port Harcourt still lag behind Lagos. The Agge seaport in Bayelsa keeps getting pushed to the next administration. When will our leaders adopt a long-term industrial strategy?

Considering our steel industry potential, are these UK agreements boosting infrastructure at the cost of dependency, and what practical steps can Nigeria take to leverage local resources?
