Nature and Nurture in Christian Growth

Psychology often explores whether people are shaped more by nature—their inherited traits—or nurture—their upbringing, education and environment. For Christians, both are essential for spiritual maturity. The Holy Spirit transforms us from within, helping us grow in holiness and reflect God’s character. The Word of God also nurtures believers through instruction, correction and daily guidance. As we study and obey it, we grow into the likeness of Christ. Spiritual growth requires both the transforming nature of the Holy Spirit and the steady nurture of God’s Word.
