AFPAA Urges AU to Intervene in South Africa's Renewed Xenophobic Attacks

AFPAA Urges AU to Intervene in South Africa's Renewed Xenophobic Attacks — 1 of 2
1 / 2

The African Parliamentary Aides Association has called on the African Union to act swiftly against the recent wave of xenophobic violence in South Africa. The group warns that killings, intimidation and property destruction targeting Nigerians and other African nationals threaten continental unity and stability. In a formal appeal to the AU Chairperson, AFPAA’s President highlights the irony that South Africa once relied on African support during its fight against apartheid. The association demands that attackers be identified, prosecuted and that victims receive fair compensation. AFPAA urges the AU to convene heads of state, engage the South African government, and restore law and order. The body insists no African should face violence or discrimination anywhere on the continent and calls for an unreserved apology to affected nationals.
