Yala New Yam Festival 2026 Plans Football Tournament, Health Outreach and School Project
The 2026 Yala New Yam Festival planning committee has briefed High Chief Higgins Peters in Abuja on preparations for the cultural celebration. The festival will feature a Unity Football Tournament involving teams from Yala’s 14 wards. The competition begins on 8 August, while the final will hold on 30 August at Christ the King Primary School, Okpoma. Other planned activities include a medical outreach, health-insurance enrolment for 100 vulnerable residents, an apple-tree planting ceremony and the laying of a foundation stone for a secondary school classroom block in Itega-Ekpudu. Organisers say the theme, “Unity in Diversity,” promotes peaceful coexistence, cultural heritage and community development in Yala.
